Lunch in New York City at the luxurious Cipriani restaurant, surrounded by some of the best journalists around: it doesn’t get much better than that. I had the honour this week of being a finalist for a 2013 Mirror Award, which rewards stellar reporting on the media industry. My U.S. election story for the CBC on voiceover talents, the people who narrate political ads, was selected as one of five finalists from a group of more than 300 entrants. The category was best single story in radio, TV, cable or online broadcast media. The award ended up going to a documentary about a small town newspaper that covered a devastating tornado in Missouri in 2011. I’m very humbled to have been considered alongside such talented journalists. Big thank you to my editor Joan Webber and my documentary mentor, Dick Miller.
